Quick tips on a new spam free email account
I have a couple of email accounts. I have done this on purpose because: One of them is Spamtastic the other is spamfree!
One of the ways companies that send out lots of spam works is when they find an email account that is a real account they sell it to other places to spam that account more (and make more money, since it is all about the money).
There are ways someone can know what email addresses are real:
1. They put an image in the email, when you open the file and access the image file you are actually accessing their computers and they know what email address it is (an important reason to have your images turned off when first opening an email).
2. They ask for an open confirmation be sent to you (you can also turn this off on your end making it so that you never send a confirmation to anyone when you open an email)
3. They put a link and if you click on the link then they know what email address the click came from.
4. If you try to unsubscribe from an email that is really just a piece of spam, they actually keep the email address in their records as a spamming email address.
Once they know your email is real the spammers shares your information with another company who also sends you spam and then the next thing you know you have a mountain of spam in your in box. Then you have to spend countless hours dealing with de-spamming to get to the real important stuff!
So, to avoid getting spam on the email account you really use there are a few tricks
Note: these aren’t foolproof, and you may still end up on someone’s list :1. Set up another email account, like Gmail, and use that email for all of your on line purchases, surveys, what have you. Use your regular account for Friends and Family only.
2. Don’t visit sites that are apt to use your email for spam, such as, “win a free” blah blah site.
3. If you fill out information for an application of some sort, use your spam account info on the application rather than you friends and family email.
4. Make sure your friends who “spam” in their own way with funny jokes etc., know the purpose of the BCC line on an email, and if they don’t teach them!
Hopefully this will keep you clear for a bit.
