How To Select Proper Keywords For A New Page
If there is one thing common to every single website, it is that its purpose is to attract visitors. It doesn’t matter what product is being, what subject is being explained or what opinion is being given, the aim is to get people to visit.
Before they can do that, people need to know about your website and the chances are they will find it through a search engine.
You want the name of your website to appear as high in the search engine rankings as possible, and this is where SEO, or search engine optimization, comes in.
Keywords are a fundamental part of this optimization. You need to choose the best, and if you get them right they will help your site appear high in the list of search engine results. The steps below explain some ways you can achieve this.
Think about your target audience.
- What words are they likely to enter into a search engine?
- What would you use if you were trying to find a website like yours?
- If you can, ask other people – colleagues, family, friends – what keywords they might use to find your website. You should focus on words that relate your product or topic, and the more specific they are the better.
Find out what keywords your competitors use, particularly those with very high search rankings.
This is easier than it sounds, as the keywords are often embedded in the source code for the page. All you need to do to view the source is to right-click on an area of the page, and then select ‘view page source’. Look at the meta tags to see what words they use.
Use a keyword analysis tool.
There are plenty available, and they will make suggestions of their own based on an analysis of the content of your page.
The chances are that you will have missed some of the words suggested and even if you haven’t it is good to know that you have come up with the same ideas as the experts. Try not to get carried away though. For any suggestion given, ask yourself if you would type it in to find a website like yours.
Now you have the information, go and apply it!
1. Find a competing website
2. do the analysis
3. and put it though a keyword tool
If you then take the keywords and incorporate them into your own web pages, you’ll be well on the way to having a successful, high ranking site.
