Writing consistently engaging blogs and maintaining reader traffic is a task that may be very difficult for some bloggers. By practicing a few simple habits, keeping a blog lively and attractive will be easier and more effective.
The first and foremost important tip is to keep the content fresh.
Many bloggers will compose posts that are all very similar or just not very interesting. Posts should be worded well and contain interesting information.
Bloggers often feel very passionately about subjects or perhaps are sometimes being paid on a per-word basis. Regardless of the reasons for posting long blogs, this practice should be avoided.
In today’s fast-paced society nobody seems to have time to sit down and read a long blog post so keeping posts concise, short and very authoritative or entertaining is very important. Almost all readers will quickly lose interest after seeing multiple posts over 1,500 words.
Encouraging interaction and feedback is a great way to keep blog followers engaged. Every human possesses the psychological desire to be heard and acknowledged; this is why people are so eager to voice opinions even when they are not asked. Simply asking for and encouraging feedback and blog comments will keep readers coming back. It is important to reply to comments and questions also.
By answering questions between blog posts, readers will be kept engaged continually. For those whose blogs are focused around a business, providing a random monthly post where one reader will win a prize is another way to draw blog traffic. For example the blog may state that the first person to correctly answer a posted trivia question will win a $10.00 discount voucher toward store products or services.
Variety is another important asset for a thriving blog. Followers will not want to read about the same thing over and over. For example if a blog’s posts are about pharmacies and medications, instead of making every blog post about new medications and their effects, usually adding an occasional or monthly “fun” blog post will draw readers’ attention.
In the example of a pharmacy and medication blog, posting a fun fact-filled article about drug store soda fountains in the 1900s will create an interesting variety that most readers will enjoy. Nostalgic subjects are intriguing deviations and so are entertaining mythical speculations. For example a post titled “Did A Real Ancient Love Potion Ever Exist?” will draw interesting responses from readers.
