Costa Rica Vacation Rental Tips

Today's Date: Thursday 17th May 2012

Have you been looking for a place to stay where you can have a tropical holiday? Some place with thick jungles and lovely beaches?  A tropical paradise that isn’t too expensive?  Then you should be coming to Costa Rica! But if you come to Costa Rica, where do you want to stay, in a tourist resort, or a private estate? Do you want to face long lines with overcrowded pools, and kids tearing up and down the hallways? I’m guessing you have something else in mind.

Choosing the ideal Costa Rica vacation rental will make the difference between having a fantastic holiday, and one that is just so-so. That is why you need some Costa Rica vacation tips.

The Costa Rica vacation rental you choose is going to be your home while you are on vacation. This is where you will sleep, wake up, eat many of your meals, and rest. If it is raining out, or just too hot, you may stretch out and relax while you read a novel, or watch TV.  When you meet people you like, you will want to entertain them in your vacation home.

Here are ten Costa Rica vacation tips you can use to select the perfect Costa Rica vacation rental:

Using the internet will provide you with the quickest way to get informed about places to stay in Costa Rica.  If a website doesn’t provide you with pictures, that is a sign that you should take a pass on that particular place and move on. Looking at photos in brochures can be fun, but a lot of times the information in the brochure is very out of date.

1. Look for actual photos of the holiday rental in question. Check to see what the rooms look like inside, and what the exterior of the building looks like. Make a list of questions, such as the number of bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen facilities. Ask about outdoor amenities such as a deck or grill. Is there a pool, or an ocean view?

2. Make a list of those amenities that you absolutely must have. Then make a list of amenities that you would enjoy having, but that wouldn’t be the end of the world if they were not available.

3. Make a list of activities you really want to do on your holidays. This could include scuba diving or snorkeling in the morning, and relaxing later in your villa.

Find out how far the vacation rental is from the airport. In some cases, a rental villa may be hours away from the airport, and after a long flight, the trip will seem unbearably distant. You don’t want the enjoyment of your holiday to be ruined because you have to make a long trip back and forth to the airport.

4. Before you call to make your arrangements, pick a second and third choice of dates you would like to rent the villa in question. This will save you valuable time if you need to rearrange your vacation time.

The Costa Rican town of Playa Panama features a beautiful Costa Rica villa right on the water front where you can avoid all the hassle of dealing with traffic or parking problems. Here you can avoid long lines of crowds and enjoy your holiday in peace.

If you find the villa you really wish to rent and you are able to be somewhat flexible in making your vacation schedule, prepare some alternative dates so you can immediately make the booking arrangements. This will save you a lot of time and hassle, and you will avoid losing the dates because of booking delays.

5. Phone directly to the vacation rental places that seem as if they are good candidates to be your chosen vacation spot.  Take the time to speak with the owners or managers of the property.

You should have your list of questions prepared in advance that you ask when you call each resort. This will enable you to make a fair comparison. It will keep you from asking the same thing twice, or neglecting to ask something important that might slip your mind.

When you speak to the person on the telephone you will get a better sense of whether the person is going to be helpful if you run into a problem during your stay. If the person does not seem friendly and helpful during your initial telephone call, they are not likely to be any better when you meet them in person and have a problem.

Here are a few more questions to ask: Will there be a welcoming basket filled with fruit or needed supplies? Will the owner arrange to make sure that the fridge will be filled with your essential items before you get there? Will there be plates and utensils included?  What about pots and pans? Are you going to have to purchase your own?

Is there air conditioning in the unit, or will you have to hope for some tropical breezes to cool you down?

6. Ask if there any amenities included in the package.

You may be informed of something that you didn’t think of in advance, but it may perfectly suit your needs.

Does the room come with maid service? You won’t feel as if you are having much of a holiday if you have to make your bed and wash the dishes, even if a dishwasher is provided.

Does the room or suite include a washing machine and dryer? If it does, it means you do not have to take a lot of clothes when you pack. Will the maid wash your clothes before you leave? Returning home with your suitcase filled with clean clothes will be preferable to bringing back laundry that needs to be done.

restaurants, events7.  Ask about local restaurants, and other activities for tourists. Are there any events that will take place during your vacation time? What kind of entertainment will there be? Having a list of your favorite types of activities will make it easy to ask the right questions. Check the website of your Costa Rica vacation rental and you will find links and ads for local attractions. You will be able to see a calendar of upcoming events and discover the location of local restaurants that are nearby.

8. Do the owners live in the area? Do they have a team of managers that are available to help you at any hour of the day or night?

Owners of a rental vacation spot will be able to give you a lot of valuable information about the area. They can tell you about little known places that haven’t made it into the tourist guidebooks. They will also be dedicated to making sure that you enjoy your holiday when you are staying at their villa.

Having the owners on site is important and it makes a big difference. If something goes wrong and you need some help, you don’t want to be phoning the rental company only to reach some bored kid who doesn’t really care to help you when your toilet overflows.

9. How long has this owner been in the business of renting out holiday units? An owner who is experienced in working with rental properties knows what services tenants expect. He will know how to meet their needs and expectations, and will give you many traveling in Costa Rica tips to make your holiday more enjoyable.

If the owner has started in this business only recently, you may run into a lot of problems. They may not be treating it seriously as a business and they may simply be trying to have fun and not work too hard. They may not have any idea how to run the property effectively and make sure their guests have a good holiday.

10. When you look at the pictures of this resort, do you feel an overwhelming urge to put yourself in the picture? Can you imagine yourself having a great time in this place?

If the pictures make you want to go there right now, then you finally have your answer. This is the right place for you and you have found the perfect Costa Rica vacation rental spot. I hope you have enjoyed these traveling to Costa Rica tips.
